On February 15, 2021, the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) released the new mask standard ASTM F 3502.

(3) Quantitative leak assessment can be carried out through design analysis or using ASTM F 3407.

(4) It is forbidden to have vents, valves or other functions that allow airflow to bypass the filter element of the barrier mask during exhalation.

(5) There are no sharp edges, sharp places or burrs.

(6) The retention system is used to cover obstacles on the user's nose and mouth to achieve the expected use and activity time.

3. Conformity assessment

(1) Should meet or exceed the requirements of Model A in the standard of ASTM F 3050;

(2) Sub-micron particle filtration efficiency (PFE) and air flow (breathing) resistance tests must be carried out by a laboratory accredited by ISO 17025 and within its accreditation scope.

4. Use period

Reusable masks must state the "lifetime", the maximum number of uses and cleaning cycles that can be carried out, and still maintain their performance level attributes.
